Review 'The Last Lumenian' by S.G. Blaise
Thank you to MCMT tours for gifting me a copy!
The Last Lumenian is a story of a rebellious space princess who fights for the innocent people of her planet. Who struggles against the stifling monarchy that refuses to bend to women, and who keeps fighting no matter what her fears tell her.
I devoured this book in less than 24 hours and I certainly did not expect to love it this much! But the truth is that I had so much fun reading this book that I just could not put it down! I genuinely had such a fun time reading this book and at the end of the day, that's what really matters.
Talk about an in medias res beginning. The book starts right in the action which immediately sucks you into the story. The short chapters keep you on the edge of your seat and keep the plot fast-paced and action-packed. There is something exciting happening in every chapter which almost makes this book unputdownable. At some points, my eyes were racing across the pages so fast because I had to know what happened next, I had to force myself to slow down and go back to read it again.
The romance was amazing! I loved the enemies to lovers with that quick-witted banter dynamic between both characters! I will forever be a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope. Another trope I love that was included in this book is the touch-her-and-you-die trope. Yes, I am a sucker for that kind of romance. I like my love interests to be a little morally grey and murderous and this book served me a fully loaded five-course meal of that edgy book boyfriend that makes my knees weak.
I loved the squad of characters that was formed. I loved how the relationships evolved from sometimes hostility to forgiveness and friendship and loyalty. I loved the funny banter between them and the sarcastic remarks they made while staring death in the face. I also loved that most of the characters were age 20 and up. I'm used to reading YA books but as a 23-year-old, it's so refreshing and overall fun to read a book with older characters.
The world-building was really unique! I loved the mix of sci-fi and fantasy. I loved the space castles and galaxy wars between gods and armies of wicked creatures.
Wondering if this book is for you? Let me give you a comparison list:
Imagine From Blood and Ash but take it to space
Gather up a messy squad of the weirdest people like Aurora Rising but by the end of the book, they will die for each other
Imagine the sassy sarcastic characters like the Crave series but make them age 20 and up
Imagine non stop action scenes like Illuminae that will keep you on the edge of your seat
Imagine a sexy, edgy book boyfriend like Hawke, Aaron Warner, Kal, Thomas Cresswell, Jaxon Vega Khalid, Séverin,...
Imagine a sassy heroine like Juliette Ferras, Clary Fairchild, Audrey-Rose, Kady Grant, Grace,...
I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the sequel because after that ending I'm just dying to know what happens next! I'm ready for more intergalactic wars and more of this romance!
